Keith Mestrich currently serves as a Founding Partner and Managing Director at Percapita, a fintech company delivering financial services to low- and moderate-income workers through employer benefit platforms. He led the company’s go-to-market strategy and oversees product innovation and strategic operations.
Previously, Keith was President and CEO of Amalgamated Bank (NASDAQ: AMAL), where he orchestrated a transformative turnaround. Under his leadership, the bank returned to sustained profitability, executed multiple M&A transactions—including the acquisition of New Resource Bank—and went public in 2018. He expanded operations to key metropolitan markets, grew assets to over $7 billion, and positioned the institution as a national financial partner for non-profit, political and other mission-aligned organizations.
Keith Mestrich also founded the Amalgamated Foundation, which today manages over $500 million in annual philanthropic capital. As Chair Emeritus, he remains active in developing new capital strategies for nonprofits and impact-driven initiatives.
Earlier in his career, Keith held senior leadership roles at the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Workers United, and UNITE, overseeing financial strategy, operations, and organizational restructuring for each of these institutions. He began his career as a corporate researcher for the AFL-CIO.
Keith Mestrich currently serves as Board Chair of the National Trust for Local News, a growing media holding company operating newspaper groups across multiple states. He is a past Director of Amalgamated Bank, and currently serves as Chair of the Advisory Board for Rose Lake Capital, as well as an advisor to several high-growth startups in financial services, energy, and childcare innovation.
His civic and nonprofit board roles include the Frances Perkins Center (Board Chair), Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (Chair of Governance and Audit Committees), Lincoln County (ME) YMCA (Chair of Campus Planning), and Chair of the Lincoln County (ME) Democratic Committee.
Keith is the co-author of Organized Money, a 2019 book exploring the role of capital in driving systemic change. He is also a Finance Leaders Fellow at the Aspen Institute and a member of the Aspen Global Leadership Network.
He holds a B.A. in Political Science and Public Policy from Kalamazoo College, where he graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Keith lives in New Harbor, Maine, with his wife, Tilney.
